Beth Portman
Singer-songwriter
Genre: Folk
Secondary Genre: Jazz
Self-titled genre: Acoustic Folk Jazz
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
A vibrant singer-songwriter with a nostalgic touch.
Presentation - duo or trio format
Smart, funny and engaging, singer-songwriter Beth Portman performs a musical style she calls Acoustic Folk Jazz–a nostalgic concoction of early jazz, folk, swing, blues and bluegrass. With catchy, melodic lines and lyrics that exhibit poignancy and humour, Beth’s rich-toned powerful voice has been compared to those of k.d. lang and Maria Muldaur.
Accompanying herself on that 1920s jazz instrument, the ukulele, as well as the guitar, this songstress can be presented as a duo or a trio depending on the venue. The result is a fresh infusion of a golden era.

Quotes
"Portman's clear, mature voice, slightly reminiscent of Cindy Church, makes this collection easy to listen to. I'm lovin' it."
Mike Sadava - Penguin Eggs
"Beth Portman's voice is a beautiful instrument."
Monica Miller - Host/Producer "How I Hear It", CKUA Radio Network
"Beth Portman’s first solo album finds her in the warm fields between folk roots and swing. Looking with a lover’s eyes and a mother’s sighs at relationships, sliding easily from exuberance to melancholy in her rich-toned subtle but powerful voice."
Chris Allen - Announcer/Producer, CKUA Radio Network
"Beth Portman dips into early jazz and roots styles in her songs, but the positive vibe she brings to performing ensures that her tunes are happily nostalgic and never dated."
Roger Levesque - Edmonton Journal
